Family Promise of Gwinnett County, Inc. is a nonprofit, interfaith organization for families in transition. Part of a national network, Gwinnett County is one of over 139 Networks in 39 states. There are over 4500 congregations and 110,000 volunteers making up these Networks. The Mission of Family Promise of Gwinnett County, Inc. is to mobilize communities of congregations that partner with social service agencies to end homelessness - one family at a time. Gwinnett Family Promise has been serving homeless families in Gwinnett since April 2005. Since opening, 88% have left the Network with housing and 83% with employment. The average stay in the Network is 65 days. Guests are expected to continually work on their goals and service plan. The stay in the program is contingent upon whether they follow the program guidelines and work actively on goals attainment. All school-aged children must attend school.
There are no shelters for homeless families in Gwinnett. The Gwinnett County School System accommodated over 3,000 homeless students during the 2005-2006 school year. It is estimated that 60% of the homeless family population in Gwinnett County are children and 50% of the children are under the age of six. In 2007, the Gwinnett county Network had over 1200 volunteers who provided over 19,000 hours of service to families in need.
Cannon United Methodist Church is one of 13 Host Congregation in the Gwinnett Network. As a congregation, we provide lodging, three meals a day and caring hospitality 3-4 times a year. All this is through your volunteer hours.
